Brook Trout Bonus

I was bass fishing with a young couple this weekend and was very pleasantly surprised by two brook trout. The first one was caught at the boat launch before we had even gotten in the boat, the second came about halfway through the morning, a very pleasant surprise for all of us and they each landed one trout.  Not to mention being absolutely beautiful with excellent color, almost as bright as they are in the fall.This morning I went down on the Saint George River to look for stripers, I did not find even one. I did see five eagles all together in one spot. I guess that the alewives are nearing the peak of their annual spawning run and that was the attraction, I also counted as many as nine ospreys hovering overhead at one time. Clearly the alewives are attracting some attention from the fish eating birds. Hopefully the stripers will be attracted to the same buffet in the next few days. Over the years I have guided a number of striper fishing parties over the Memorial Day weekend with great results so they can’t be to far off. Of course the down side is that then I will have to choose where to take clients for a good mornings fishing. What a fabulous dilemma to have!
