December like it should be

After a rediculously warm and wet November December has got us back to normal. It was 15 degrees outside this morning when I got up. With the sun at 9 AM we have warmed back to 19 so it is not going to be a very warm day. At least it finally feels like late fall in Maine. We even had a little snow yesterday so the fields are covered with white. We had a strong northwest wind last night but it has gone down this morning. My duck hunters at the end of the week may be preempted by a forecast that includes a gale warning for Friday and a small craft advisory on Saturday. Looks like the weather may cancel the final guided trip of the season.

I have been much happier this fall with the Jotul 118 CB that was new last season. I cut my wood a little shorter around 22 inches and split it a little smaller and the stove is burning much better for me. I am even finding that the rear damper is a useful part of the stove, something that I had little use for last winter. I would say that as I speculated last winter I just needed a little time to figure out exactly how best to operate it. It is as good as the old one and uses a little less wood to boot.
