I spent Friday fishing the upper Androscoggin River above Bethel with Dan Tarkinson of Fly Fishing in Maine. We fish together at least once a year and this year we decided to fish that stretch of river for trout. We had a beautiful day, cool but not to cool and perfectly clear. The fishing was very good we each had a number of both rainbow and brown trout during the day. Not to mention a number of trophy chubs that kept us alert.
We fished a long day made even longer for me by a two hour drive on each end. When I mentioned at home that I was taking the day off and fishing in a spot a hundred miles form the house the response was “silly man” you have been getting up at 4 AM and fishing all day for most of the summer, how is this a day off? But it was great to have someone else in charge and Dan did all of the rowing in the raft so all I had to worry about was exhausting my casting arm.
I was tired for sure when we got off of the water at 5:30 and the drive home was exhausting but it I thoroughly enjoyed my guides day out and am looking forward to the next one.
