A short time ago I was lamenting the winter that we were not having this year. I take it back. The current temperature is 10 degrees Fahrenheit which is our forecast high for the day and the wind is blowing a consistent 20 MPH with some gusts much higher. The snow that fell this morning as the front passed through is being swirled down the field across the street. This weather is forecast to last all week with only a few flurries to break the monotony. Below zero at night and single numbers or teens during the day. Wow winter is here with a plan to make up for lost time.
This weekend my son came down from the College of the Atlantic with three of his friends who were competing in the 17th Annual National Toboggan Championships at the Camden Snow Bowl. One of them had never even been on a toboggan and the team had never ridden together so expectations were low to be sure. After two runs they were 30th in the three person class and moved into the finals on Sunday. In classic college style the school had no plan for anyone to advance and in fact the other teams had started back with the sleds. After a little scrambling around the sled was left in Belfast where Noah picked it up for the Sunday races.
They spend Saturday evening waxing the toboggan in my office. I had a meeting Sunday morning and did not hear how they finally placed but it I certainly enjoyed the event on Saturday.
