After the wet cold spring we have been rewarded with a long stretch of warm settled weather, including some of the prettiest days you could ever ask for. This morning it is showering and the radar looks like we might have those most of the day. It will be interesting to see if today’s party cancels. They are driving down from Stonington for a striper fishing trip.
Luckily the tide will allow us to start mid morning so they did not have to get up in the middle of the night. This unsettled weather I think will mark the beginning of the slide into autumn, already the sunrise and sunset have moved significantly and the days are about an hour shorter than they were a month ago. Shorebird migrations are well underway with the little fellows covering the mudflats just outside of Thomaston Harbor. They seem to build up over a couple of weeks and then in the middle of the month they are gone all at once.
All of these changing season signs get me thinking about getting in firewood and getting ready for fall. Including a getaway for the family before summer is over.
