One of the great things about my business is that as the weather changes so do my activities. I am now spending time in the woods with the dogs getting us all in shape for the coming upland bird hunting season. Not long sessions right now but pleasant walks in the woods to allow all of us the chance to stretch the muscles we will be using in a few weeks. Even though my upland hunting season is short it is very intense with only Sundays off during October. By the end of the month we will all be delighted to spend a day at home resting.
To get ready for that frantic time I also need to get my firewood cut, split and stacked in the garage which will be the major activity this coming week. I am planning to make the trip to Boston to renew my Coast Guard license. Because of new homeland security procedures I have to personally show up at the Boston office with two forms of photo identification in addition to all of my regular renewal paperwork. I understand the need completely but it is darned inconvenient. In order to be there when they open at 7 I’ll need to leave the house by 3AM. Even for me that is an early start! The good news is that I think it can all be accomplished in one day and it is always an adventure to go downtown in Boston.
The leaves seem to be turning very quickly this year and I wonder if we will hold on to the color until Columbus Day weekend. I hope so for all of the travelers that are coming ot see the leaves change.
