What a treat this week has been I have had a good variety of trips that have taken me on the saltwater and the local ponds. Striper fishing continues to improve as the fish move up from the south. Still no real big fish (there never are early on) but good numbers of fish that make it fun for everyone.
I have also been canoeing on the Saint George here in Union. On the most recent trip we were able to see several loons, eagles and lots of warblers. Most notable was a scarlet tanager that sat in a tree along the river to allow everyone in the party a good chance to see him. Tanagers were fairly common when I was a kid but are unusual now so the sighting was a real treat. Not to mention that the brilliant red showed nicely against the new green of the spring leaves.
The weather is a little unsettled at the moment and it looks like rain for the weekend (and the big high school graduation celebration for my son). No matter what the weather it is great to be spending so much time outside again. I forgot how trapped in the office I feel part of the year.
