Early summer always seems to me like time is on fast forward; before I know it we have gone from spring to mid-summer. This year has been no different; lots going on and time is flying by. My guiding calendar is filling faster than the last few years and I have already guided a couple of family fishing trips with kids from
southern states. School is still a week or so from getting out here in the north. Yesterday's trip was a blast and one of the kids lost a huge largemouth bass, but we all got to see it jump clear of the water and knew what had been possible!
My duties as the Executive Director of the Maine Professional Guides Association have been taking a fair amount of my time as well. The Association just launched a web application that helps Maine moose permit holders who want a permit in a different zone or season find each other to swap permits. As with any project of this sort there are a ton of little details that each take some time. You can see the results of that effort here.
It has been a great help to have Chris Taylor as my intern this spring and it is hard to believe that his time at Maine Outdoors is half over. We do spend some time checking out the places that I plan to take you this summer which means that every few days we get to go fishing. As you can see we do not always catch big fish
when looking around. It has been fun to explain the why and how of what I do to someone else.
This coming week he will experience his first trip from a guide's
perspective.
As you can see there is plenty going on to make the time fly, I'm sure that you are experiencing the same. Please take a minute and get outdoors to enjoy the summer before it is gone!

Great Weather!
The last two days have been exquisite warm enough but not too warm. Beautiful blue skies and just enough breeze to discourage the bugs. Last Saturday was the Kids Fishing Event on Seven Tree Pond as always a great success. Good turnout, plenty of volunteers and fish for the kids to catch. Read more....

What Makes Maine Outdoors Different
Inquiries and reservations are coming steadily for the coming season, lots of repeats, actually almost trips with old friends. A good number of new clients as well who frequently want to understand what a guide offers them that simply renting some
equipment and going outdoors does not. I have a short piece on Maine Outdoors titled Why Hire a Guide that explains some of the reasons Read more...
