Eagles in the rain

Wet eagleThis morning it was raining quite hard with a brisk Northeast wind not much of a day to spend on the water. Still I needed to  check on the eagles I have promised for several eagle watching trips in the next few weeks. Not to mention a good way to make sure that my raingear works as I expect it to.

I drove to Thomaston Harbor and launched the boat making a quick trip to see what I might find. I was pleased to find a good number of eagles (8 total) and see a chick in the nest. Not to mention a bunch of ospreys and hundreds of double crested cormorants. My most unusual sighting was a group of turkeys on the salt marsh along the river with the toms in full display. They all took to the air and flew across the river as the boat approached.

I did try to catch a striper or two but the river was the color of chocolate milk from last night’s rain not exactly conducive to striper success. A great chance to be back on the river and knowing that there will be any more in the next few months, oh and by the way the rain stopped after the boat was on the trailer!
