More introduced fish!

Yesterday morning I guided a family from Maryland on a family fishing trip. The weather was less than perfect, actually when we finished it was pouring rain. The fishing though made the wet worth it. The last fish caught was a black crappie. Another invasive species in the Saint George drainage! Add crappie to the pike that we now have and things are about to change significantly. Sorry no picture (it was pouring remember) but I am certain about the fish identification. I killed the fish and left it for the eagles to enjoy.

The morning was perfectly counter pointed by a meeting I attended for the Maine Professional Guides Association on invasive fish species at the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine in the afternoon. Needless to say no one has any good answers to the problem of how we get people to stop moving fish around. One thing is for certain we need to broaden the conversation to include more of the public and get them to understand that this is a significant problem.
