Welcome To Decembrrrrr!

The weather in Maine usually turns markedly colder around Thanksgiving and this year was no exception. Temperatures have been well below normal all week and many of our lakes and ponds are already ice covered. I am usually able to get out for a little fishing in late November and early December. I tried on Wednesday I really did but the high for the afternoon was thirty one degrees with a northeasterly breeze and snow flurries.

I tried a few spots hoping to find one out of the breeze enough to actually cast a fly and did. Except the water was the color of slate and cold enough to make a fly line want to knot up at every opportunity not to mention making my fingers much too stiff to really cast effectively in only a few minutes. I finally gave up and retreated back to the warm office.

Even though the winter cover is on the boat I am holding out for a few more days of fishing. Glancing ahead at the weather forecast there is hope for a few more warm days and I hope to get out and enjoy some of the late season trout fishing that I had last year. Of course it is less than a month until the days start to get longer again and we can look forward to some spring fishing.
