Wild Weather Weekend

Memorial Day weekend marks the start of summer for many folks in the United States, here in Maine it marks the beginning of our summer season. Like most years I was scheduled to fish with a couple of families over the weekend. Mother nature had other plans. Saturday was a complete washout it rained hard most of the day and was cold and damp. Sunday afternoon as the weather was predicted to break; no such luck. After an hour or so it was clear that everyone was cold and wet, the fish were not going to cooperate and that the river was four or five feet higher than it had been all spring. I called a hasty retreat.

Monday looked better a pretty day if a little breezy. When I got to Megunticook Lake the level had risen so much that I launched the boat in the parking lot. This happened to me once before so not a huge problem. But all of that cold water continued the fish lockjaw and we fished all morning with only a couple of fish even looking at lures.

Not exactly the outcome I had been looking for but given the snow and flooding that happened elsewhere we got off easy. Still summer is here, the weather is almost perfect and I am certain that the fishing will get better.
