Stripers!

After hearing excellent reports on striper fishing from the Kennebec and further south, I got a positive report from the Saint George. Argy and I took a few hours on a perfect afternoon with full sun, a stiff west wind and pleasant temperatures to check into it. We tried the likely spots all the way down to Maple Juice Cove on the western shore.

River Restoration?

There is a lot in the news this week about the beginning of the project to restore the Penobscot River with the removal of the Great Works Dam. Designed to help restore our native runs of Atlantic Salmon and other sea run fish. A word of caution, the track record of dam removal in Maine has not been good for recreational fisheries in spite of all of the promises and press releases.

After the Rain Fishing Report

Good news; the smallmouth bass do not seem to have been discouraged by all of the rain over the last few days. The Saint George is very high and running to hard to wade for a week or so I would guess. Yesterday I fished on one of the local lakes higher up in the headwaters hoping that the fish would still be in the late spring pattern.
