Maples in Bloom

This spring is coming fast and early. Without checking my records it seems like we are at least a week ahead of recent years. The daffodils bloomed here in the yard last week, the maple trees are in bloom and by next weekend the lawn will need to be mowed.

I am outfitting the Lund today with the equipment that a guide needs every day. Flies and lures etc. on down to sunscreen; in preparation for the first fishing trip of the year. I plan to fish myself on the next nice afternoon. Maybe tomorrow?

At this moment I expect that every part of our coming season will slightly ahead of last year. The spring tout fishing with insect hatches will kick it off in early May and the bass moving onto the spawning beds by the end of that month. With any luck the stripers will be close behind the alewives that are traditionally in our rivers on Mother’s Day.

Over the next few weeks I spend less and less time at my desk and soon enough will be on the water with clients every day creating great outdoor memories on fishing and nature exploration trips. I am looking forward to the change.
