So how much snow?

Over the years I have often written about how much snow we get here in Union from any particular storm. Watching the Don on Snowshoestraffic that comes to Maine Outdoors to view those pages there is definitely an interest in that information. There are resources available online that I think would be a little more useful than my best guess about the amount of snow we got. First the National Weather Service in Gray has a nice snowfall forecast map that tells you what they predict for snowfall in our area.

After the storm this New England Snow Depth map is a handy way to see just how much in on the ground in an area. Interesting that we have over two feet on the ground at the moment. Keep in mind though that there are variations even within an area as we saw on my recent snowmobile trip to Baxter State Park.

Hope that you all enjoyed the storm and are ready to get out on snowshoes this weekend! Oh and by the way we have well over a foot of fluffy new snow since yesterday morning.
