Stuff that just works!

Recently I wrote a post about a snowshoe trip and how the clients were delighted to be on wooden snowshoes. I was amazed to think that they were over 30 years old. That got me thinking about the things that I use that simply do what they were intended to do year after year like the wooded snowshoes. Lots of things come to mind and I thought that folks might like to know about some of the equipment I use that just plain works.

The first thing that comes to mind is my Grundens raingear. I now have had 3 sets, the first set I bought in 1982 the first year I had a guides license; the second I have had since 1997 and the latest came to me this Christmas. The first two sets were the green version that have worn like iron over the years, been stashed in the boat or vehicle and kept me dry in some very wet conditions. My latest is the nylon “weather boss” line and I already like the comfort and lighter weight. They are definitely much more comfortable to wear and I can’t wait to give them the real test over the coming season. Especially during the fall grouse hunting season when I spend hours walking through the woods in my rain gear.

There is no better feeling than being out on a cold rainy day and being snug and warm down inside of a good set of raingear! Especially a set that you know will last for years.
