What makes Maine Outdoors different?

Inquiries and reservations are coming steadily for the coming season, lots of repeats, actually almost trips with old friends. A good number of new clients as well who frequently want to understand what a guide offers them that simply renting some equipment and going outdoors does not. I have a short piece on Maine Outdoors titled Why Hire a Guide that explains some of the reasons.

What do I provide that my colleagues do not? Trips with Maine Outdoors are not inexpensive there is no other way to say it but there are reasons for the cost. Trips are exclusive, that means members of your party are the only people on the trip with me, you get full attention and are not shuffled into a group. Want to adjust a starting time? Have a special need? Want to spend a few more minutes watching that eagle? None of this is a problem because the trip is yours exclusively.

Equipment is first rate and well maintained so that it simply works. Keeping a stock of relatively new equipment that works every time takes attention and having replacements readily available if something does not work takes planning. By way of example clients broke rod tips on two spinning rods last week and a working replacement was in their hands within seconds, I understand that my clients do not want to lose valuable time outdoors because some piece of equipment failed.

Maine Outdoors is fully licensed and insured with a real commitment maintaining high standards. Again with considerable attention and cost to be sure that all of the details are taken care of. Like current first aid and CPR certification so that if something does go wrong training is in place to assure the best outcome possible.

Understanding and knowledge of the environment is an important part of what I offer, do I know every bird, flower or plant no; but I know most of them. Knowing where we might find say an eagles nest or bass in a feeding mood in August or perhaps a pileated woodpecker is important to my clients. I am not always right but I a good idea and there is a better than even chance for success.

Many repeat clients tell me that Maine Outdoors trips are an excellent value even when compared with the trips run by volunteers at no charge and certainly a better value than what others are offering. I hope to spend some time with you this summer, showing you what a value Maine Outdoors trips are.
