Every year winter sort of creeps up on me, it is here today for sure. With the snow cover temperatures can fall pretty quickly at night this morning it was 5 degrees when we went for our walk. At any rate each winter I am surprised when the heated water buckets are needed in the kennels (usually around Thanksgiving), the dogs should come in at night because of the cold and how quickly the wood pile melts away. At my age you would not expect all of that to be so surprising.
In the fall the wood box empties slowly, actually in October one filling lasts a week or more in November each filling holds for a few days and now in December I fill it every day. After all of these years I can tell you that the Jotul 118 uses 30 sticks of firewood every day if I am in the office to keep it filled in the cold months. Looks like regular fillings are on my agenda for the next few months.
