Smallmouth Bass are on the Spawning Beds

Smallmouth Bass are an aggressive fish at almost any time of year but in the spring when the males are defending the spawning beds the fishing can be amazing. What the males lack in size (for the most part smaller fish) they more than make up for in attitude. This week will be the best of the fishing for them on the spawn. I fished one of my Clearwater lakes this morning and the fish were defending their beds not as aggressively as the will be after a few more warm days. Allowing for some excellent sight fishing; mixed in today were larger female smallmouths, a couple of largemouths (their spawn is a week or so away I would guess) and white perch chasing around in a shallow cove.

Fish seemed to want a streamer fly and I was offering a large crayfish pattern, I tried a smaller streamer for a while and found it to be much less effective. To enjoy some of the fastest bass fishing of the year make your reservation today!
