Orvis Guide Rendezvous

Last week was this annual rendezvous held this year in Asheville North Carolina. I flew down to North Carolina anticipating a warmer climate and a day on the water fishing in addition to the day of meetings and hearing about the new Orvis products.

The trip down started early, a little after three in the morning at seven below zero and went without a hitch. On arrival I picked up my rental pickup truck and headed off to the hotel immediately noticing that the warmer climate part of the plan had not come true. Warmer than seven below to be sure but not a whole lot!

We spent the next day in meetings and at presentations all good and a great chance to catch up with other Orvis Endorsed Guides. The weather did not break and after talking with my guide for the next day we decided to call the fishing trip off. A great plan since the temperature was near zero the next morning although it did warm to around twenty during the day, not the nice warm day of casting a fly I had in mind!

The return trip was pleasant and also went without a hitch arriving home a couple of hours before our latest snowstorm. I have now raked the snow off of the roof three times and am dangerously close to exhausting the firewood that we put in the garage last fall (not to worry there is more stacked outside).

The big news is that this is going to be a record year for snowfall and the lowest average temperature for the month. To confirm that report here is the view from the office window after I shoveled the snow away so I can see out this morning!

Greetings my friend. I am warm and cozy ,,,and have about 2 cords left for the season, although I have burned my collection of kindling for the year...We are holding off on the furniture as a last resort! My problem, is because I have a postage stamp yard..Where do I put the white stuff. There is a berm about 5 feet around my driveway...& I can toss it over the fence into my neighbors yard....he has a big yard and he is never home! Well hand on to your hat pardner... We are expected to get another 8" starting around 6pmish . Not much left to do but put another log on the fire, drop the chicken into the crock-pot & go back to tying those Orange & Brown Clousers, you like... Hey Spring will be here in 3 weeks!
All the best,
AJ
PS
I am going to tie a fly called Whitlock's Painted Darter. looks very perchy.
I have only seen a picture of it but you know how that goes with me.....!
