Thinking back over the last 10 years

I made the title of last weeks newsletter time sure flies. I got to thinking about how quickly time has flown by, when Maine Outdoors was first started our oldest son Noah was a newborn. This spring he is taking his test to become a guide and will complete his second year in college. Our youngest son will graduate from high school next month, it hardly seems possible that they are not little boys playing in the yard or riding their bikes to school. As of the end of last month we have lived in this house for ten years, and in September we will celebrate the 10th anniversary of our family trip cross country. Four months on the road seeing this amazing country and meeting lots of interesting folks.

In that same ten years I would guess that I have guided several hundred parties and well over a thousand individuals. Some of them stand out because I have some great story to tell about our adventure or something truly amazing happened on our trip together. Most however are just pleasant memories of time well spent getting to know people who genuinely shared an interest in this part of the world and what there was to see. I am certain that thousands of fish have come over the rail of various boats (almost all went right back) most of them only part of a great outing some truly trophies.

I have to say that I am truly fortunate to have found work that I enjoy and look forward to almost every day. I hope to be fortunate enough to be able spend many more of those days in the next ten years sharing my corner of the world with folks that truly appreciate it.
