As this excellent season winds down it struck me this afternoon; the only time a canoe was off of the trailer was last spring when I was personally doing some trout fishing. The number of nature exploration trips has been about the same but they are now all Scenic Maine coast boat trips. Fishing has now become the focus at Maine Outdoors in the summer season. There is of course some blurring of the line between the two.
The family I fished with last Friday spent almost a half an hour watching the eagles on Seven Tree pond and both of the Nature Exploration Packages with LeVatout this summer asked to spend at least one day fishing with me. Most of the family fishing trips are really about experiencing the outdoors with the family and fishing is a part of the trip. The package that I was included in offered with Downeast Magazine at Libby Camps did not fill and we canceled it back in June.
Clearly the trend ad Maine Outdoors is away from the nature trips I thought would be the future to fishing which is what my clients want to do even when it is only the reason for being outdoors. To be fair though the Grand Lake Canoe that I guided fishing trips out of for years has not been used with clients for two years now all of my fishing days are spent in the Lund Alaskan. Perhaps there is a trend away from canoes?
I don’t know what changes this means for the future although it is a pretty clear signal.
