As I wrote recently I am truly fortunate that my work takes me outdoors to do the things I love and then to the policy arenas where the future of those things and the places where they happen are discussed. Usually while working as the executive director of the Maine Professional Guides Association.
Sometimes those discussions make the news. Recently the Maine Outdoor Federation has fallen apart resulting in a couple of blog posts by George Smith and a television piece by Bill Green. (full disclosure I consider both to be friends)
I am saddened by the Federations demise as I really do see the need but clearly there are not enough volunteer hours or cash around to keep it going.
Last August Governor LePage appointed me to the Commission to Reform the Land Use Regulation Commission (the planning board for the unorganized parts of Maine). We recently reported to the legislative committee of oversight and for some reason I got a lot of questions and a little air time.
Always interesting to see what parts of these discussions are considered newsworthy.
