Smallmouth Bass on the Spawning Beds

I am asked when the bass spawn will be each spring. Let me cut to the chase it has started. On one of my favorite sight fishing ponds this morning there were beds in deeper water (about 6 feet) that held bigger male fish. Not completely aggressive yet they took some finesse and a well-placed cast to make the connection. As you can see the quality of the fish made all of that worth it.

Warm sunny weather in the forecast will make things progress nicely in the coming week. The smallmouth spawn will lead into the largemouth spawn in about ten days.
