At last! It has been a long cold winter to be sure with a spring that just did not want to start. Still it is 60 degrees this morning without much wind and a cloudy sky. This is the fun part of being a guide, I have to scout for the fish. That really means a few hours on the water for me, poking around to see what has changed over the winter.
I launched in Seven Tree Pond and tried all of the usual early season spots. Yes I caught a few fish (but none of the big pike I was looking for). The most remarkable feature though is no leaves on the trees. You can see right into the woods so I noticed a lot that is normally hidden behind the leaves in summer. Mostly wood ducks along the edge of the high water although a couple were in the trees. I assume looking for nesting holes. An osprey (seems early for them to be back), several pairs of loons, a few cormorants and the eagle nest on Seven Tree. That does not look like it has been added to this spring. So maybe no eaglets there this year.
All of my equipment worked as expected (except I forgot the landing net) so we are now officially ready for the season. Looking forward to fishing with you!
