A Little light snow here this morning. Just a reminder that winter is not going to give up easily. Everyone is working from home now and I realized that I have been working out of a home office for a very long time. 
Even when I had a day job in state government (now 20 years ago) I did a lot of work from my office at home. The office is a pleasant room on the north end of the house with a separate entrance. After a lot of trial and error I have settled on the layout that you see here. Almost everything in reach and a comfortable workspace. The dogs can see me from the kennel outside and keep a watchful eye to be sure I do not make move toward the door without their knowledge. Here is a picture of where I spend much of my time in the off season.
Although for a time in the morning on a sunny day it is just too bright and in really cold weather, I need a heater under my desk to keep my feet from freezing. Easy enough to draw the shade for an hour in the morning and worth the view. Keep in mind that the woodstove is only a short walk into the next room for a quick warmup. Since all non essential businesses are now closed in Maine for a month and Maine Outdoors is clearly on that list. I have been spending long days at my desk including many in my role as Executive Director of the Maine Professional Guides Association.
So what advice do I have for the newly working from home? Set a boundary! It is way too easy to work every waking moment if the office is a 25 step commute. Advice I freely give but only occasionally live by.
Desk time will soon be limited to whenever it is too uncomfortable to be outside or something needs to be done. I was able to register the boat and the ice is mostly gone from the local ponds so I think I will distance myself some on the water.
