I am right in the middle of a very busy stretch where even an afternoon off is unusual. Mostly striper fishing but enough other trips to keep it interesting. In fact this morning I will be on a family canoe trip for a few hours and am looking forward to paddling a canoe. I have been treated to almost continuous wildlife sightings over the last week from a mink on the bank to eagles sitting close by and watching us fish. The osprey numbers in the Saint George near Thomaston Harbor are impressive.
This morning was consistently great fishing for stripers. If this is not the best that Maine has to offer I can’t imagine what is. I had two clients one who only wanted to fish surface poppers for stripers and the second who is learning to fly fish. He can cast a fly but not very far and certainly without much accuracy. We started it off in the harbor where we had a few fish on the first drift. Including a 23” fish that they kept for supper and a few other smaller ones.
The striper fishing continues to be quite good on the Saint George. Today was a little slower but I think that the slack high tide had a lot to do with that. It was a nice run of fat fish though. A couple fish were big enough to be kept if we had wanted to. The birds were hanging around but did not look like they were expecting bait to be chased to the surface. I guess even gulls have standards.
