We have already passed the longest day of the year and soon the daylight will be noticeably shorter. For now it is light here on the Maine coast at 4:30 AM and stays light until after 9 PM. Making for plenty of opportunity to get out and enjoy the Maine Outdoors. I have been doing just that this week striper fishing, canoeing and a little freshwater fishing just to keep things interesting.
There are stripers in the Saint George River for the first time in a few years and it is great to be back on the saltwater in the early mornings. The fish are not here in the numbers that they were say five years ago rather more like the early 1990's where you have to work, have the right fly or lure, be in the right place and be patient. The reward is larger fish than we have had in the recent past although fewer in number.
The last few days have been notable for the wind, cold (had a fire in the woodstove for three evenings) and thundershowers all signs that we are about to see the warm settled weather of summer take over. In fact the forecast for the next several days looks like just that. I have a group learning to fly fish and exploring Megunticook Lake that should have perfect summer weather. Make sure that you get out end enjoy the long days and great weather. Hope to see you in the Maine Outdoors!
Eagle Watching or watching eagle?
Last Saturday morning in the drizzle and fog I guided a canoe trip for a father and his grown daughter. The trip was most enjoyable. I had arranged our direction of travel so the light breeze was at our backs and the paddling was easy with that assistance and the conversation a delight. Read more...
A Suprise
Had a great time on a learn to fly fish trip yesterday I asked Chris (the intern) to paddle around and take a few shots from the kayak. As you can see he got a bunch of interesting shots from that perspective.
The weather was perfect we saw several eagles and caught a few fish including a small pike. It looks like pike are in the Saint George drainage to stay. Read more...
