I have enjoyed several family fishing trips this week and can safely report that the perching is as good as it gets. Yesterday it was a fish a cast for a good part of the afternoon under perfect blue skies as you can see.
For those of you interested in larger game the bass fishing is also heading toward the fall peak. Take some time and wet a line before summer is over!
Family Perch Fishing Trips
August seems to be the month of family perch fishing trips, yes I do other trips to be sure but for some reason the perching seems to bunch up in August. It is always a lot of fun and if I do it right we will have the school of fish close to the boat where we can all see the fish gathered around the bait waiting to take a turn biting the hook.
This morning was no different dozens of fish came to the boat and one youngster was bitten by the fishing bug for life. He learned not only how to catch fish but to land them and release them alive with minimal impact. All great stuff.
It is always great to hear "aww do we have to leave" at the end of the trip. Or like yesterday have a young man get a rod out of the boat and continue to fish from the float at the launch while his family got ready to go. An appreciation of the outdoors is truly a gift of a lifetime.
Quick vacation!
Our boys are grown and it is unusual to have them both home at any one time. Last week we were fortunate to have them both with us. I took a few days off and we climbed Katahdin and then headed south for a graduation celebration with family. It was great to get away for a few days and even better to spend some time with the boys. It makes me realize how important your time off is and how valuable time outdoors with your family and friends can be. Something that I strive to make possible on every Maine Outdoors trip.
