I spent a good part of this afternoon getting things out in anticipation of the coming season. Not everything to be sure, the busy part of the year is still a ways off, the detail items that make things flow. Fresh batteries in the GPS, go over the first aid kit, make sure there are matches in my match safe. I also put some retail items in the Yukon so that they will be handy if needed.
Folks often ask me what a guide does on his days off. Well today was the perfect winter day; crystal blue skies, fresh powder snow, not to cold and as you can see in the photo album no shortage of white stuff. I was supposed to be working at my desk getting caught up on all of the off season stuff.
If you live in the south you don’t have the chance to experience icicles like we do here in Maine. With our recent snow and a few sunny cold days, we have had excellent conditions for icicles to form on the eves of the house. The sun warms the roof (partly because I shoveled a few bare patches that really heat up) melting the snow that then trickles down and refreezes as it drips from the eves.
