Yesterday morning I had let the dogs out for their morning exercise and come in to get something from my desk. I look out of the window and could see Mae the pointer standing stock still, tail wagging just a little. Then she moved and set up again looking very intent (running bird). Soon Copper came up to see what was going on and stopped stock still right behind her. Of course I did not have my spring mindset and at first thought “I wonder what those dogs are watching?”
This week’s project is a new roof on the front of the garage. It has been a great reminder that I am not as young as I used to be. I am sore from climbing ladders and stiff from handling bundles of shingles. When I am finished the roof should be good for another twenty years; of course it will be no fun at all when I am in my seventies!
I know that spring is not just around the corner but today in all of the cold and wind (high temperature of 18) I saw a bunch of robins on the side of the North Union Road. They were in a crabapple tree making the most of the small frozen fruits and in fact had dropped a bunch on the snow below the tree. I have to admit that even after seeing them in February for the last few years I am still startled to see them in the cold and snow.
