I’ve been on Megunticook Lake in Camden twice this week with two different clients bass fishing. Fishing was a little slow on Monday; the fish preferred flies. I am a using secret pattern custom tied for me, very nice when it works. Bass are just starting to bed and I would guess that the spawn will start next week in earnest. From here on fishing only gets better!
Yesterday at the annual meeting of the Maine Tourism Association we presented our Hall of Fame award to Libby Camps in northern Maine. It is hard to imagine a business surviving for 120 years and still being run by the same family. A lot has changed in those 120 years to be sure but there they are still going strong. Congratulations!
All of that made me think about how long I have been working as a guide. Last week I took a reservation from the now grown son of a father son pair that I fished with for several years in the early 90’s. This time I will have the grandsons along. What a treat! Of course it makes me realize that I have been at this for a long time and that the gray in starting to show in my muzzle. The good news is that every day is still fun and I am always looking forward to spending time outdoors with the next client. Could that be you?
