Fall winds down

I’ve spent the last week working around the house and in the office getting things put away from summer and getting ready for duck hunters this week. A lot of getting stuff out and putting other stuff away. I assembled the blind frame on the Lund and improved the blind itself to get ready for duck hunting this week. We’ll see how it stands up to the wind and seas, not as well as I think it should I'm sure.

I also installed a new Jotul 118 CB wood stove in the house; replacing the 118 that we have used for 20 years. The old stove served us very well and we have no complaints but the side burn plates and baffle had burned through and needed to be replaced. It also seemed to me that the stove was just not as efficient as it used to be. That has been confirmed this week as I learn how to use the new stove; we are definitely using a lot less wood for the same amount of heat. Of course now that I have 6 cords of wood cut split and in the garage it is most likely too much. The wood will keep if we don’t use it this winter.

Took Mae the pointer out behind the house for a little exercise on Thursday and was pleasantly surprised by the number of woodcock that are around. We must be at the height of the migration; which makes sense given the warm wet fall we are having. The weatherman is talking about it being much colder at the end of this week. Figures, I’ll be duck hunting! Let’s just hope that the wind does not blow too hard.
