A lack of respect

When I came out of the state office building I simply could not believe how warm it was. This has been a winter of warm weather broken by brief periods of cold. We are headed back into the deep freeze this weekend with strong winds and dropping temperatures in the forecast.

I did not get the contract for a proposal I had submitted last week. Not a problem losing is part of the game. Two things make me crazy though. First there was little intention of letting me know that I had not been selected. It is a problem because in a one person operation I had put off other customers pending hearing about this project. I had called the contact before I typed one word and asked two questions; first will you let me know and second do you have someone in mind for the project. I have submitted other proposals to this group and they usually choose one of their existing contractors and I did not want to waste the two days it took to write a good proposal.

Needless to say I had to e-mail two days after the date I was assured I would hear by and was told that in fact they had chosen someone who knew them better. Not a problem but why would you tell me in the first place to go to the trouble. In fact why go through the RFP process if you already know who will be doing the job. Needless to say they are no longer on my list of possible customers. Respect needs to go both ways in any relationship.
