You don’t need to ask. After all it is January in Maine aren’t we supposed to have snow and cold? How cold, you ask; around eight below zero Fahrenheit this morning. The most impressive thing about this cold wave was how it arrived. Yesterday morning when I got up at 5AM the temperature was thirty one, five hours later at 10 I went out and discovered that the temperature had fallen to 10 on a stiff northerly wind. Not a fun day to be outside.
I am settling in to a different winter routine, one not so busy as the last several winters. I am getting caught up on errands and things that have been on my list for a long time. Oh and by the way filling the woodstove regularly.
Yesterday I went to the Agricultural Trade Show in Augusta, one of those things that has been on the list for a long time and just never happened. I enjoyed my visit and saw a bunch of folks that I know. One interesting observation is that the Ag community is even older than the hunter and angler community. I wonder what the transition in ownership in the next ten years or so might mean to Maine’s farms and rural communities like mine.
