In the last few weeks I have been spending more time on the water, after a long winter in meetings or at my desk it feels great to be out! It has been very warm and dry here this spring with rainfall well below normal. Pond and river water levels are very low for this time of year. The forecast for the coming week calls for a series of rainy days. With luck things will be back to normal and we will not be worrying about a lack of water or the danger of a forest fire.
There are a couple of new items in the Maine Outdoors Online Store. Long sleeve tee shirts in royal blue and forest green with the Maine Outdoors logo silk screened on the back. These have already been a huge hit. Also new in the store are stainless steel water bottles with the Maine Outdoors logo.
While at the Orvis Guides Rendezvous we had a presentation on the environmental impacts of plastic water bottles and I believe that a reusable water bottle is a small thing that we can all do to help the environment. Look for a blog post on how that will impact trips this summer and going forward next week. After this newsletter look for a newsletter twice a month with the details of what is going on the the Maine Outdoors. I am looking forward to spending time on the water with you this summer so make your reservations today! |

Easing into Spring

The water temperature was only 45 degrees and the air was not even that warm. With a fairly stiff north wind, conditions were less than ideal for casting a fly. Still I had a few free hours and some new rods to check out.
