Dandelions abound in the fields around here and this is the week that they are in full bloom; giving the fields the appearance of being a gold carpet. Not something that everyone appreciates to be sure but a real sign the coming season to me.
The trees are all sprouting new leaves that are in the soft greens of spring. We all appreciate the colors in the fall but to me there is a lot to appreciate about the more subtle spring greens. Argy and I have been to New Jersey twice this month because my father passed away. Both trips provided a great opportunity to see the progression of spring south to north.
The spring bird migrations are in full swing and seeing them is easy before the leaves are fully out. Fishing has been spotty this spring with some really good trout fishing in the evenings. I also have had some good luck on the pike in the Saint George River with several large fish coming to the boat. Bass will be spawning soon so some of the most exciting sight fishing of the year is just around the corner.
Overall we are heading into the weekend that marks the beginning of the summer season with some beautiful scenery and some of the best fishing of the year. Hope that you have a great weekend!

Fishing with your kids
I always go on about how great it is to fish with kids and last evening was the proof for me. I met my now grown son Noah at the boat launch after he got out of work. We chose Megunticook Lake in Camden because it is nearby for him and I like to fish there. We spent a couple of hours casting flies for rainbow trout in a quiet cove. The fish were cooperative enough to keep our interest, including one that broke off my fly.

Early Fishing Report
The last few days have been noticeable for cold wind and rain showers. I had fishing trips two days and can report that warm, waterproof and windproof clothes are the order of the day. In spite of the weather the water levels in the Saint George are falling nicely from the spring high water. It will not be long until we are at the ideal spring levels.

Fished in the Rain Today The forecast this morning called for scattered showers with the chance of a thundershower. I have had today's reservation for some time and the day could not be changed. So off we went! I supplied rain-gear and really it was not raining that hard until about 11 or so when we found ourselves in a thunderstorm! |
