After hearing excellent reports on striper fishing from the Kennebec and further south, I got a positive
report from the Saint George. Argy and I took a few hours on a perfect afternoon with full sun, a stiff west wind and pleasant temperatures to check into it. We tried the likely spots all the way down to Maple Juice Cove on the western shore. No fish to hand but sightings of fish on the surface (briefly) convinced me that there are a number of small stripers in the river. There is still a good flow of stained freshwater coming downriver that I expect will clear in a few days. So the stage is set for much better
striper fishing than we have had in maybe five years. I have my striper rods rigged and ready and I am looking forward to early mornings spent on the river catching stripers in numbers again!
