Half way through October and the changes are quite noticeable. Not just the cooler daytime temperatures or the falling water temperatures. The stripers have gone south and pickerel are on their annual feeding spree before winter. The picture is from a chilly afternoon scenic boat trip on the Medomak River only an hour before it started to rain.
Loons have lost their summer colors and are headed to the saltwater before the freeze comes. Still there is plenty to do in the Maine Outdoors and I am teaching fly casting and chasing the pickerel. Not to mention that as water temperatures fall (now around 55 in fresh and saltwater) trout become more active and part of the plan for most trips.
One result of the current pandemic has been that many folks are eager to get outside. Many with a guide and my reservations show that interest. I have a few more days in the North Maine Woods with the dogs and a god number of fishing trips planned well into November.
Soon enough though the ice will come and it will be time to plan for the coming season. A new 20' Lund Alaskan is already on order for late winter delivery and of course the current one is for sale as soon as the season ends.
There is still some time to get outdoors and enjoy the change of seasons everywhere. Please do just that and if you are in the neighborhood lets get out together.
Best regards,
