Winter has been here for the last couple of weeks. Cold, snow and even ice. Sounds like the same across the country although we expect and are prepared for it. I thought about that this week when it became clear we do not have enough firewood in the garage to last the winter. Being home all of the time has caused wood consumption to go up. Mostly because we are around to feed the stove when the fire burns down. Being prepared though there are a couple of cords of already cut and split wood in easy reach. I'm hoping that the snow will be gone before I need to move it into the garage. Of course, there is no guarantee.
Still the days are getting longer and bluebirds arrived in our yard this week. We change the clocks soon; meaning that we begin to transition to warmer weather. We will be slower here than most of you to get to spring although it will come even to Maine by the end of April. The news on the pandemic is as encouraging and while it will not be over by summer I am hopeful that we will be able to spend time outdoors together this season with no more restrictions than last year. Hoping for even fewer! I was encouraged to read in the New York Times last week that there are no documented cases of COVID transmission outside unless folks were in close conversation. more to come on that I am sure. A positive note for an outdoor business like Maine Outdoors.
I’m looking forward to that and will have a new boat to break in during the early spring season. I also developed a new trip that I am calling
fishing basics. The trip is designed to help folks who want to get into fishing a way to spend a few hours getting the basics. The what and how of equipment and the thinking behind where to fish. With a goal of helping you understand the basics that will allow you to spend more time outdoors with friends and family in a rewarding activity.
Hoping that you are safe and warm with the clear sense that spring is coming. I’m looking forward to spending time outdoors with each of you this summer.
Best regards,
