Late September and early October are dominated by the bright reds and yellows of the maples and poplars. After the middle of October those leaves have fallen and it is easy to overlook the second act. Later in the month the oaks and beeches turn a brilliant rusty red and gold. I spent a warm afternoon fishing for pickerel in Round Pond and as you can see the colors are still a show stopper.
The fishing was slow but the fish sizeable and worth the effort of casting those big flies on a warm pleasant afternoon on the water and out of the grouse woods. A storm will dominate the next week, after that any warm day is a good time to get out!
