I always like to reflect at this time of year and think about how fortunate I am. This fall Argy and I are traveling to Ohio to visit her aging mother. Traveling to a different part of the world is always a good way to put home in perspective and this trip is no different.
The things that I appreciate about where I live and what I do are. First how quiet it is where I live and work; we are in a hotel near a busy interstate and you can imagine what it sounds like. Next the abundance and quality of lakes and ponds; we walk in a nearby park with a pond that is clearly man made, unusual for the area and colored by the chemicals used to keep down the weeds. None of these are true about the bodies of water where I spend my days. Finally the scenery here cannot be compared to Maine, few hills, not a lot of trees and a much more settled landscape remind me that I am fortunate to have the things I appreciate close at hand.
I hope that this Thanksgiving finds each of you traveling somewhere that makes you appreciate how fortunate you are every day as well.
