Today is the first day of summer and here in Maine we have been looking forward to it. The days are now warm but the nights still cool. All of the activities that Maine Outdoors offers are in full swing and in the last week I have been on almost every type of trip.
It is great to be back in the swing of guiding pretty much full time with only a few meetings thrown in for good measure. Argy and I took a few days last week and traveled Penobscot Bay on the Issac Evans out of Rockland. It was a great change of pace for both of us and for me it was a lot of fun to visit parts of the bay I have not seen in many years. Funny how you go places frequently for years and then something changes and those places fall out of your patterns. I am fortunate to be able to spend most of my days in the Maine Outdoors between now and Thanksgiving won't you join me for one of them?

What a day for a canoe trip!
Perfect blue skies a moderate northerly breeze, warm temperatures and we had the place to ourselves. Unless you count a few eagles, an otter, a muskrat and a number of smaller birds. We even stopped by a beaver lodge and smelled the castor that gives beavers their name.

Nice morning on the salt!
I have been hearing rumors of stripers in the Saint George and after a great morning on the Kennebec with Captain George Harris on Tuesday I was pretty excited to give it a try. The good news is that yes there are a few the bad news is that for the moment it is like the last few summers the fish are spotty and take a lot of effort to find.

Fly Casting Lessons on Father's Day
I look forward to introducing clients to something new in the outdoors. Maybe seeing something they have never seen before or learning a new skill. Yesterday was a bonus day in that respect. I had the pleasure of guiding a couple of young folks on a learn to fly fish trip in the morning and offering a learn to cast clinic at Sweetgrass Winery in the afternoon.

Checking availability and making reservations
This year there are some changes on www.maineoutdoors.biz that make it easy to check availability for the trip of your choice and make a reservation. If you are thinking about a date you can check the availability calendar.
From any of the trip pages you can click on the make a reservation link and Time Trade will show you the slots available for the trip that you are interested in. From there the process for making a reservation is pretty straightforward. As always I will be in touch to confirm the details and make any additional arrangements.
Of course you can still call Maine Outdoors at (207) 785-4496 and make a reservation the old low tech way. No matter how you choose to make the arrangements I am looking forward to seeing each of you this summer.
