Freshwater fishing has turned the corner from the mid-summer doldrums and the bigger bass have begun to feed actively. My two most recent trips on Megunticok Lake in Camden produced very nice bass mostly largemouth but several nice smallmouth in the mix. Fishing for perch and sunfish with kids has been excellent and a lot of fun every time.
The saltwater section of the Saint George River has produced several nice stripers for clients lately but fishing for them is still spotty at best. Mackerel have gotten nearly as elusive lately and yesterday I learned the reason. Before my clients arrived at the landing I was testing rods to be sure they worked as I expect and I caught a bunch of very small bluefish (smaller than my hand). I have seen them before but not in numbers like this. They were everywhere in the river from the harbor to the nearest islands.
