This seems like it has been an especially long winter with lots of snow and cold. March is still very much a winter month in Maine but hopefully one that has a little less punch than the last few. I have already prepped the Lund Alaskan for spring fishing and am now simply waiting for the ice to go! Hopefully the winter is already well on its way toward spring where you are and it is time to get outside and enjoy warmer weather!

The Latest Weather Data, or Experience?
As someone who has worked outdoors a good part of my life I focus on the weather even more than most rural folks. I have had a weather station at my desk for a very long time that gives me the latest wind direction and speed along with the temperature. This winter I upgraded the system on the roof above the office and now get a ton of useful information that I never had before. Like the minimum temperature for the last 24 hours with the exact time it occurred. The amount of rainfall (none today)or even the wind chill ( 17 degrees at the moment, thanks for asking) given the current wind speed. All of this is great information to have but in reality it does nothing to make a cold day feel warmer or a rainy wet day feel drier. That is where experience comes into play.

Sure Sign of Spring!
We are forecast to get a little snow today. Still for me the Lund Alaskan headed in for its annual |
overhaul and tune-up is a sure sign that spring fishing is not far off. Today was one of those perfect winter days with a clear blue sky temperatures in the 20's and no wind. I took the time to shovel the snow off of the boat, back the sequoia into the snow bank connect the trailer to the boat and drag it out.Winter Turns Toward Spring
The winter weather is still here that is for sure with a little snow overnight to freshen up our landscape and a morning low of 14. Still the sun rises a little further north each day. As you can see in the picture it is now well north of Spruce Mountain after being south of Pleasant (the hill to the right) on the shortest days in December. The chickadees are singing every morning and our goldfinches are starting to turn gold again.
