Today I was fishing with a couple from Texas, they vacation here every summer but up until now have stayed on the coast. Yes they had driven inland some but not really spent any time outdoors like they did today.
We saw a loon on her nest and a few swimming but late in the afternoon they heard their first one call and were spellbound. We were fortunate because that loon had a lot to say and used a variety of calls over about twenty minutes.
I have to admit that I am sort of used to loons calling in the background and don’t really stop to listen. But I did today! I like to be reminded that the things I almost take for granted really are pretty amazing.

They make me stop fishing...
I'm sure you set up a wonderful memory that will last a lifetime.
All it takes for me to stop reeling, or stop in mid cast, is the fall of a loon. I'll find them then return to what I was doing, looking back and forth between my lure and the birds.
