I had a meeting this morning with a bookkeeper who understood the ins and outs of QuickBooks. It was enlightening and well worth the time and expense. I had several things that I had not done correctly over the years and a few in 2005. It seems as though we were able to get through them all today and get me on the right track in my thinking. The good news, I made significantly more profit in 05 than I thought that I had. The bad news is that the net worth of the company is nowhere near what I thought it might be. It is a great feeling to have everything categorized correctly and giving me the feedback that I need to make good decisions in the future.
The morning points out the value of hiring an expert in any field. Pam knew where I had problems from running a few reports that I had looked at a thousand times and by asking a few questions could figure out where I had gone wrong. When I guide I know that I provide the same sort of insight, let’s see the tide is falling and the wind is in the east. You tell me that you can’t cast a fly very far so we should fish in a certain spot because the wind will be minimal and the drift of the boat will add to your cast and we will stay in the river because you might get seasick. I see the similarity and I hope that my clients think my efforts are as certain and add as much value to their morning as was added to mine today.
