Our stretch of winter continues. This morning it is snowing pretty hard with a temperature of 6 and a stiff northeast wind. The forecast calls for it to change to sleet and possibly even freezing rain tonight before it ends. A morning inside with a second pot of coffeee and a fire in the fireplace. We are scheduled to attend the Portland Symphony Orchestra’s Magic of Christmas performance this afternoon. They may cancel the event but if not we may be making the trek in the snow!
We are in the middle of a stretch of winter that we have not had in December for several years. The Jotul 118 CB is certainly earning it’s keep. I am pretty pleased with it’s performance this year. I have a couple of comments about the stove though first it only likes very dry wood, seasoned for at least a year. Second it has a smaller firebox than the old 118 that we had for years. Which means that it simply does not put out as much heat as the old one or hold a fire as long. In theory we should be using less wood but it is hard to tell given the colder temperatures and other differences from year to year.
I spent Thursday last week splitting two additional cords of firewood and piling it near the garage in case what I have put in runs out before the winter is over
