Makes me appreciate what I have!

After travelling over the holidays I have come to appreciate that the trips Maine Outdoors offers are not only needed but a rare opportunity in today’s world. Over the last two weeks Argy and I along with our youngest son visited family in Ohio and New Jersey. It was an eye opening experience. First waking up on Christmas morning in a hotel was not as bad as I anticipated and the visitors experience is all about the folks that you meet. More on that later.

What I realized is how fortunate I am to live in a place where a quality outdoor experience is literally right outside the door. A variety of lakes, ponds and semi wild places are part of the everyday experience here and not a rare event. Our View

We walk almost every day for forty five minutes or so. At home it is a simple step out the door and go, routine. Yes there are a few cars on the roads, but few when compared with the places we visited. We walked in what pass for outdoor opportunities in those places; parks with long lists of rules about what is and is not acceptable there.

The best one to report is in Ohio while walking on the paved path around a manmade pond there was a slight rise to the land and there painted on the pavement was a warning in big white letters “Caution Hill”. Needless to say I am pleased to live and work in a place where we do not have to be informed about the basic changes in our environment because we can see and appreciate them for ourselves. It does make me realize the important role I play in getting folks outside to see and appreciate the Maine outdoors.
