After a long delightful spring last year we were expecting more of the same this year. That has proved to not be the case, last Saturday we had a cold wind with rain (snow at times). I registered all of the boats and trailers last week, and had the annual overhauls done last fall so I am sort of read to go, if the weather should turn warmer as the forecast claims it will.
Yes it was wet and dreary last week but preparation for spring fishing trips is moving ahead. The cover is now off of the 20 foot Lund Alaskan and the annual spring washing started. Fitting out with safety equipment and charging the batteries next.
Time to get out there and have some fun!
New Trip Offerings!
I have added day hikes and eagle watching to the list of trips offered by Maine outdoors. Both of these additions are inspired by client requests that were great trips last year. The eagle watching trip is intended to provide folks that have never seen an eagle that opportunity any season of the year. The venues will change with the season depending on where the best chance is to see eagles. Day hikes were a successful suggestion last season from a foreign traveler that I enjoyed very much and think will be of interest to visitors that are interested in exploring the area on foot.
I am looking forward to seeing the response to these new nature exploration offerings. |

Later on as I headed off to my first meeting of the day in Augusta I passed this group read more.... |
Legendary Maine Guide Award
The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife gives an award each year at the Maine Professional Guides Associations annual banquet honoring a guide who has had a big impact on our resources and the profession. The award was introduced last year in memory of Wiggy Robinson who had been on the guides licensing board and done many outdoor shows as part of the IF&W team when I was the Director of Information and Education. As a result of having been a working guide for a long time I have been very fortunate to know the first two recipients; last year was Gil Gilpatrick who had been on the board of directors of the Maine Professional Guides Association when I first became a member long ago.
